Attendance and Commitment Policy
North Brooklyn Youth Baseball League is committed to providing a positive, organized, and dependable experience for every player. Consistent attendance is essential to achieving that goal.
Regular participation helps players develop their baseball skills, build confidence, learn team concepts, and form stronger relationships with their teammates and coaches. It also allows coaches to plan effective practices, create balanced lineups, and give every team the best possible experience.
Because registration is limited and we frequently have players on a waitlist, accepting a roster spot means committing to attend regularly.
Attendance Expectations
Players are expected to attend at least 75% of their team’s scheduled games and practices over the course of the season.
We understand that children get sick and families occasionally have emergencies, religious commitments, important school obligations, travel, or other unavoidable conflicts. An occasional absence will not jeopardize a player’s roster spot, especially when the family communicates with the coaches.
However, regularly missing baseball because of another sport or activity does not meet the league’s attendance expectations. Players are welcome to participate in other activities, but families should make sure they can still commit to attending baseball consistently before accepting a roster spot.
Communication
If a player will be absent, a parent or guardian must notify the team’s coaches in advance whenever possible.
Families should update their availability in TeamSnap and communicate directly with the coaches when a player will miss multiple games or practices.
An absence without any communication will be considered an unexcused absence.
First-Month Attendance Review
The league will review attendance after the first four weeks of each season. A player’s roster spot may be released if the player:
Attends fewer than half of the team’s scheduled activities during the first four weeks without a legitimate reason
Has three consecutive unexcused absences
Develops a pattern of inconsistent attendance or recurring conflicts that will prevent regular participation
Has a family that does not respond to attempts by the coaches or league to discuss attendance
Before releasing a roster spot, the league will contact the family, explain the concern, and provide an opportunity to respond. Players will not be removed automatically because of a single absence or an isolated difficult week.
Attendance will continue to be monitored throughout the season. The league may release a roster spot later in the season if a pattern of inconsistent attendance continues.
Withdrawing and Refunds
We do not want a family to continue participating simply because it has already paid the registration fee.
If a family realizes at any point, including after the season has started, that its player cannot attend consistently, it should contact the league. The league will provide a full refund and offer the roster spot to a player on the waitlist.
If the league releases a player’s roster spot because of ongoing attendance or communication issues, the family will also receive a full refund.
There will be no financial penalty and no hard feelings for being honest about a player’s availability. We would much rather provide a refund and give another child the opportunity to participate than have a player remain on a roster but rarely attend.
Our goal is not to remove children from the league. Our goal is to create dependable teams, support player development, and make sure that every available roster spot goes to a child who is ready to participate consistently.
