Our Coaches
North Brooklyn Youth Baseball League is powered by volunteer coaches.
Our coaches are parents, neighbors, former players, longtime baseball fans, and community members who give their time to help kids learn the game, build confidence, and have fun. Like everything else in our league, coaching is rooted in community. We are grateful for the people who step up each season to make youth baseball possible in North Brooklyn.
What We Look For in Coaches
NBYBL coaches do not need to be former professional players or baseball experts. The most important qualities are patience, positivity, reliability, and a willingness to help kids learn.
Great coaches in our league:
Create a safe, welcoming environment for all players
Teach the game with patience and encouragement
Focus on effort, teamwork, and sportspersonship
Help players improve at their own pace
Communicate clearly with families
Represent the league in a positive way
As players get older, the level of instruction and competition increases, but our core values stay the same. We want every player to feel supported, challenged, and excited to keep playing baseball.
Coaching at Different Age Levels
Our younger divisions focus on basic skills, movement, teamwork, and having fun. Coaches help players learn how to throw, catch, hit, run the bases, listen to instructions, and be part of a team.
As players move into our older divisions, coaches introduce more advanced skills, game situations, pitching, catching, strategy, and positional play. These groups become more competitive, but we still emphasize positive coaching, player development, and respect for teammates, opponents, umpires, and the game.
Volunteer Coaching
NBYBL depends on volunteer coaches. Each season, we need head coaches, assistant coaches, practice helpers, scorekeepers, and parents who are willing to lend a hand.
Some coaches lead a team. Others help at practices, keep kids organized in the dugout, warm up players, or support on game days. Every contribution matters.
If you are interested in coaching, co-coaching, or helping out in any way, please let us know. We are always looking for more adults who care about kids, community, and baseball.
Our Coaching Philosophy
We believe youth baseball should be competitive, joyful, and development-focused.
We want our players to learn the game the right way, but we also want them to build confidence, make friends, support their teammates, and love coming to the field. Winning is fun, but our bigger goal is to help kids grow as players and people.
At NBYBL, good coaching means teaching baseball while also modeling patience, fairness, effort, and sportspersonship.
